Over the past year, I’ve become increasingly curious about mushroom coffee. Like many people, I love the ritual of coffee, but I don’t always love the jitters, energy crashes, digestive issues, or dependence that can come with multiple cups of traditional coffee each day.
Functional mushroom coffees have exploded in popularity, promising benefits such as improved focus, sustained energy, immune support, gut health, and reduced caffeine intake. As someone interested in wellness, performance, and sustainable energy, I decided to try several of the most popular options and see how they compared.
Over the past few months, I’ve personally tested five different products:
- Everyday Dose
- La Republica
- Delight Teas Dandelion Chicory Coffee
- Four Sigmatic
- Live Consciousness Beyond Brew
Here’s what I found.
1. Everyday Dose
If I had to choose one favorite overall, Everyday Dose would easily take the top spot.
Before trying mushroom coffee, I was drinking three to four cups of regular coffee every day. While I loved the ritual, I didn’t love the side effects. Everyday Dose changed that.
What stood out most to me was not just the flavor, but how I felt. One or two cups in the morning provided smooth, sustained energy that lasted throughout the day. I felt focused, productive, and alert without the spikes and crashes I had become accustomed to with traditional coffee.
The flavor is smooth, rich, and enjoyable. Unlike some mushroom coffees that taste earthy or overly medicinal, Everyday Dose still feels like a morning treat.
Pros:
- Excellent flavor
- Smooth, sustained energy
- No jitters or crash
- Helped me significantly reduce my caffeine intake
- Only needed one or two cups to feel great all day
- Subscription program with discounts
Cons:
- Expensive
- Smaller serving size than competitors
My Rating: 9/10
2. La Republica
After trying a few online brands, I found La Republica at Grocery Outlet. It surprised me and earned the number two spot.
One of the things I appreciated most was that it actually tastes like coffee. While some mushroom coffees seem to prioritize mushrooms over flavor, La Republica maintains a bold, strong coffee taste that many coffee lovers will appreciate.
It also contains a wide variety of functional mushrooms, including lion’s mane, reishi, chaga, cordyceps, shiitake, maitake, and turkey tail. If you’re looking for a broad spectrum of mushroom benefits, this blend offers one of the most comprehensive ingredient profiles of the group.
Pros:
- Strong coffee flavor
- Wide variety of mushrooms
- Easy to prepare
Cons:
- Slightly more caffeine-dependent feeling than Everyday Dose
- Not quite as smooth of an energy experience
- Expensive
- Small servings
My Rating: 8/10
3. Delight Teas Dandelion Chicory Coffee
Technically, this isn’t a mushroom coffee, but I wanted to include it for those looking for an alternative replacement.
Made from roasted dandelion root and chicory, it offers a warm, comforting beverage that can replace coffee entirely. While it doesn’t taste exactly like coffee, it provides a satisfying roasted flavor and makes a great option for anyone looking to reduce or eliminate caffeine.
I found myself reaching for it in the afternoons and evenings or during periods when I wanted a break from caffeine altogether.
Pros:
- Completely caffeine-free
- Great healthy alternative
- Pleasant roasted flavor
- Excellent for reducing caffeine consumption
Cons:
- It’s not really coffee
- Doesn’t provide the focus or energy boost many people seek
- Lacks coffee flavor
My Rating: 7/10
4. Four Sigmatic
Four Sigmatic is one of the most recognizable names in the mushroom coffee world, but it wasn’t my favorite.
While many people love it, I found the flavor somewhat muddy compared to both Everyday Dose and La Republica. It wasn’t bad, but it lacked the clean, rich coffee flavor I was looking for.
The energy benefits were present, but the overall drinking experience simply didn’t stand out enough to move it higher on my list.
Pros:
- Well-known brand
- Easy to find
- Contains beneficial mushrooms
Cons:
- Muddy flavor
- Didn’t distinguish itself from competitors
My Rating: 5/10
5. Live Conscious Beyond Brew
Live Conscious Beyond Brew landed at the bottom of my list. Unlike the others, it didn’t taste like coffee to me at all. The flavor profile felt much more like a sweet drink than a coffee alternative. The taste reminded me of artificial sweeteners.
Pros:
- Includes multiple functional ingredients
- Could replace sugary flavored beverages
Cons:
- Sweet/artificial flavor profile
- Lacks benefits of coffee
My Rating: 3/10
Final Rankings
- Everyday Dose — 9/10
- La Republica — 8/10
- Delight Teas Dandelion Chicory Coffee — 7/10
- Four Sigmatic — 5/10
- Live Conscious Beyond Brew — 3/10
My Takeaway
After trying all five, I realized that what matters most isn’t how many mushrooms are included or how impressive the ingredient label looks. What matters is whether you’ll actually enjoy drinking it consistently.
For me, Everyday Dose delivered the best combination of flavor, sustained energy, reduced caffeine dependence, and overall experience. It helped me go from drinking multiple cups of traditional coffee every day to feeling great with just one or two cups.
If you’re a coffee lover who wants a stronger, more traditional coffee taste, La Republica would be my second choice. If you’re looking to eliminate caffeine entirely, Delight Teas offers a healthy alternative worth exploring. Live Conscious could replace sugary beverages.
As always, everyone’s preferences and experiences will be different. But if you’re curious about mushroom coffee and wondering where to start, Everyday Dose is the one I’d recommend first.
